“Jess Goes West” is a web series that follows a Congolese/South-African graduate who moves to Los Angeles to discover herself. What she discovers is that life in LA is not quite what she expected.
The fish-out-of-water story makes fun of the stereotypes people in the Western world have of Africa, and explores the thoughts of a regular African millennial experiencing America for the first time.
JGW was created, written by and starring Céline Tshika. It was made during her last few months in Los Angeles after film school. She’d wanted to make YouTube comedy vlogs about her experiences in LA, but, after taking a course in television writing, decided to put them into a scripted format instead.
